After years of watching riders squeeze into our old, overcrowded Park Street Terminal in downtown Clearwater, we’re building something truly special, a brand-new, state-of-the-art transit hub that’s twice the size and designed to serve our community for the next 40+ years.

This isn’t just about replacing an old building. It’s about creating a gateway to downtown Clearwater that connects you to everywhere you want to go, whether that’s catching a bus across the county, grabbing your bike from covered racks, or meeting your rideshare right outside the door.

From cramped to spacious: Our new station will be twice the size of the current Park Street Terminal

The current Park Street Terminal has served us well, but it’s time for an upgrade

Our current transit center has been a workhorse, but let’s be honest—it’s showing its age. With over 2,300 riders passing through daily, we’ve outgrown the space, and our modern buses and trolleys no longer fit under the terminal’s clearance. We need a facility that can grow with us.

What we learned from the old station:

  • Size matters: We need space for 2,300+ daily riders to move comfortably
  • Think long-term: Design for a 40+ year lifespan with longevity in mind
  • Plan for the future: Electric buses need different infrastructure than diesel
  • Keep traffic flowing: Buses and trolleys should stay in the terminal, not block city streets

What Makes the New Station Special

We’re building something that feels more like a modern community hub than a bus station.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Multi-modal options galore: Connect seamlessly between PSTA buses, Uber, Lyft, taxis, PSTA Access, bikes, and scooters
  • Weather protection: Indoor, climate-controlled waiting areas, with all exterior waiting areas covered by huge canopies
  • Retail opportunities: A small retail space will be available for future amenities
  • Tech that works: Real-time arrival and departure information so you’re never left guessing
  • Public art: Beautiful wayfinding and artwork that celebrates our community
  • Green from the ground up: Solar panels, EV charging stations, and LEED certification

We’re staying in the heart of downtown Clearwater, just 1,000 feet from where you’re used to catching the bus. We partnered with the City of Clearwater to exchange the location of Park Street Terminal for this new, more advantageous location.

New location: Still downtown, still convenient

Your new transit hub will be right in the heart of downtown

This project is about more than just moving people it’s about supporting our community.

The new station will:

  • Support local businesses by bringing thousands of daily riders right to downtown’s doorstep
  • Create and support access to thousands of jobs across Pinellas County
  • Improve pedestrian access with ADA-compliant sidewalks along Myrtle Ave and Franklin

Building something this significant takes time, partnerships, and a lot of community support. Here’s our journey so far:

The partnerships that made it possible:

  • City of Clearwater (land exchange and ongoing support)
  • Pinellas County
  • Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)
  • Federal Transit Administration
  • 40+ community organizations who supported our federal grant application

The funding milestone: We’re proud to say this is the first TIGER, BUILD, or RAISE grant award in Pinellas County history—a $20 million federal investment in our community’s future. After our 2021 application was marked “highly recommended” but needed more community support, we came back in 2022 with backing from 40 organizations. It worked.

Project Timeline

We know you’re eager to see this come to life. Here’s where we stand:

  • Land exchange agreement with City of Clearwater (October 2022)
  • Environmental review approved by FTA (September 2021)
  • $20M RAISE grant awarded (2022)
  • Construction currently underway
  • Opening anticipated late 2026/early 2027

This project represents the largest federal transportation investment in Pinellas County’s history. We’re not just building a transit center—we’re investing in the future of how our community connects, grows, and thrives together.
